Alarming Trends: Obama & (what happened to JFK)

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

Did you see these Hot Trends?

“Assassinate Obama” was the #19 Google Trend at the time of this blog. It had peaked an hour earlier, but I don’t know what spot that meant it got up to. Not a happy thing.

Will the stories this trend points to effect Obama’s polling going forward? Does this have anything to do with texting my brother last night to say Obama might be the anti-christ? Does this mean, as Dave Chappelle’s joke goes, he’ll need to pick a Mexican vice president?

Edit: OK, I’ve been asked to explain my anti-christ comment by a friend…so….

  1. Virtually came out of no where
  2. Ascended from one term (I think) as State Senator to less than a term as US Senator to likely President of the most powerful nation in the world (no, not China…the US)
  3. Enraptures people with his speeches that are all feel good and no substance (or, at best, somewhat shifting stances)
  4. Renounced Islam (admittedly a personal reason here)
  5. Insulated from some constructive criticism by cries of racism (look at what happened to Biden when he said Obama speaks so well)
  6. Most importantly: he’s related to Dick Cheney

So…there you go…the 6 reasons why he MIGHT be the anti-christ. Still…if he wins…I hope he at least has Edwards as a VP. :)

The POST WHORES of NEWSARAMA Part Deux

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

Well…I gave this wacky idea a shot yesterday and it got a flood of comments. All of a sudden, feverish message board addicts were clamoring to be the next subject of this public ridicul…ahem…interview. So…without further ado…I introduce you to the conveniently labeled “punk rock prostitute”…

ElTopo

ElTopo

KHuxford: So…you’re the 17th most prolific poster on Newsarama.com. What possessed you to start posting on the ‘Rama and will you have it exorcised anytime soon?
eltopo: basically I sit at desk all day and it seemed like a better thing to do then sit on myspace all day
eltopo: the comic book demon will be in me for life
eltopo: there is a beast in man that needs to be exercised, not exorcised.
KHuxford: So, what initially brought you to Newsarama?
eltopo: I’m 17th btw wow ?
eltopo: comic book girls
eltopo: hahaha
eltopo: honestly,I used to come to the front page all the time but it took me months before I realized there was a message board part
KHuxford: Comic book girls? The real kind or the four-colored fictional variety?
eltopo: both at once
eltopo: I like to tape old jim lee issues of x-men to a girl’s back

The POST WHORES of NEWSARAMA

Monday, October 29th, 2007

Out of boredom and the ease of putting something like this together, I decided I’d try doing profiles on some of the biggest Post Whores over at Newsarama.com (a site that ShotgunReviews.com has a bit of a working relationship with). Let’s see where this takes us. We start with…

Num48Champ

KHuxford: OK…so you’re currently the 9th most prolific poster on Newsarama.com, with Chap22 hot on your heels. You average over 92 posts per day. What compels you to post whore so frequently?
Num48champ: Umm, I post because I’m bored. I used to post more often, but I have cut down for the most part. Now, I mostly post when I have an opinion to state. Actually, most of my post “whoring” as you call it, comes from making Sigs. Everytime there is a request, and I choose to make it, there is another post. (more…)

Joe Quesada: Failing By Example

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

Over at the ‘Rama, Marvel has announced that the Spider-Man: One More Day event is being delayed further.

The reason hasn’t been given, but the odds on favorite is that the Editor in Chief is late with his pencils, again. How can you take him seriously as an EiC when he says that he is sorry about delays and is doing everything to stop them, but decides to take this art gig when he’s fully aware that he has way too much on his plate to keep to a decent schedule? It is just irresponsible, in my opinion.

One of the big fears I have now is Joe bragging about how the Spider-Man: Brand New Day stays completely on schedule for a significant clip of time, when they now have even more lead time to prepare and makes it no big brag-worthy deal.

It’s a crying shame, I tell ya…

There’s enough bad in the world

Saturday, July 28th, 2007

Part of why I’m participating in this whole “blogging for a good cause” is because there is definitely enough terrible stuff happening in this depraved world these days.

Over the last few weeks, two terrible stories have really disturbed me and, to some extent, shaken my faith in the world at large.

The first story I’d like to discuss a bit involves a mother and son who were a victim of a home invasion and rape in West Palm Beach.

Not only did ten attackers (mostly teens) bumrush the mother and force their way into her meager apartment, but they forced the son to actively participate in the gang rape. When they were done, they poured all kinds of household cleaning products (including bleach) into the boy’s eyes.

Didn’t hear about it? That might be due to it happening in a low income housing area in West Palm Beach. People don’t like to talk about what happens in “the projects” of this country. People don’t like to talk about the slippery slope to a life of crime that can occur on the lowest scale of the low income class in this country. Single parents struggling to provide for their families because the other parent ran out at the daunting idea of trying to raise a family on the ridiculously low wages they make when they can find work. Kids getting lost in the shuffle, as they are left to their own devices more and more, as those raising them need to work several jobs. An absentee parent can’t offer much guidance to a kid…and an attentive parent can’t very well provide food and resources for their children if their ain’t enough income coming in.

This sort of stuff will become more and more common as the gulf widens between the haves and the have nots in this country. The situation doesn’t excuse the behavior, for certain…but, then again, is their really an excuse for this situation to begin with?

So…everybody’s talking about Cloverfield…

Unless you’ve been under a rock, you’ve heard about the TRANSFORMERS movie. Now…if you managed to keep from being under a rock long enough to see the movie, you may have caught the trailer that some say actually upstaged the movie.

The Shield S6E4 - When a Pressure Cooker Goes Boom

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

This episode was fairly one note. The focus was primarily on all things Lem. There are a few other beats, but they’re pretty shallow hits.

The Shield S6E3 - It’s Gardocki’s World…He Just Lets Us Live Here

Tuesday, April 17th, 2007

More astute watchers of THE SHIELD predicted that Ronnie Gardocki’s screen time would be bumped up to help fill the void left by Lem’s murder. This episode sure makes their predictions look dead on the money.

Post Office to the First Amendment: Go F*** Yourself!

Tuesday, April 17th, 2007

I don’t know if anyone else has been following this…but there are proposals on the table to restrict the lower postal rates for publications to only the largest of publishers, which will have the effect of shutting down many smaller publications that can’t afford the huge increase in postage. Its another case of the rich getting (or staying) richer…

I urge anyone reading this to make your voice on this issue heard. Stop the big publishers from pushing the smaller competition out of business…
