Aaand, here’s the last one for the week. Lucas brings you an X-stravaganza, reviewing three X-titles under the “Divided We Stand” banner, which he couldn’t quite remember while recording- whoops! Wolverine, X-Force, and X-Factor each get a few minutes, and as a big X-fan, all seems to be well in his favorite part of the Marvel Universe.
In the second vlog this week, Janelle covers a mismatch of sorts. First, the last issue of a mature comic, American Virgin #23. Then, the first issue of a comic geared towards kids with Tiny Titans #1.
The first one this week features reviews of Captain Marvel #3 and Nova Annual #1. One of them was billed as hot and somewhat boring, one of them gets no love from Marvel at all and is consistently awesome. Stay tuned for more!
Sound issues have been corrected!
Two books that were both worth buying this week. One suffered a bit from lateness and the other managed to impress despite my accidentally missing the last two issues.
First shot of the week is a two-fer. In reviewing Amazing Spider-Man, I make it clear that I’m not reviewing books to do my best to win friends and influence people amongst the comic book professional set. With Amelia Rules, I stumble upon a little gem of a book (and all because a Newsarama message board member suggested it months ago).
I just wanted to add my two cents to THE BEAT debate over whether publishers selling their books at conventions prior to shipping to retailers is a proper practice. Do the publishers have a right to make money by selling directly to their customers? Sure. But to not share their plans to have a competitive advantage by selling the book at the con before the retailers get a hold of the product? Not so much.
It is the closest thing to rapid fire that I get when I review four books in a ten minute vlog. So, within this vlog, you get reviews of the most recent Incredible Hercules, Countdown, JLA, and Flash.
With the latest issue, I find myself heaping praise on Brubaker, Fraction, and Aja, once again. If only I could have included the work of Kano and Pulido in the praise, it would have been a perfect book. Still, it easily is my pick of the week.
A fairly recent fan of Jason’s work at Fantagraphics Books (yes, he is a one name artist, like Madonna, Cher, etc), I take a look at his newest offering. I find that expectations may have been set a little too high.
I take a look at the second issue of Brand New Day because, hey, people click on YouTube videos about Spider-Man and I’m a YouTube ratings whore. But I found the issue surprisingly entertaining, even if I still can’t let go of the OMD animosity completely.
