Capes abound! A quasi-debate.

It’s no secret that Warner Bros. is sitting a superhero goldmine, but has so much trouble getting their material out there. That could soon change, as Warners is readying to revamp how DC’s properties are developed — changes that could be announced within the next month. This article really intrigues me. It’s interesting that they decide this now after Marvel has been doing it for about a decade now. Not all of Marvel films have been as successful and DC knows what failure of a possible franchise-starter feels like (Catwoman) as well as a multi-million dollar reboot (Superman Returns) crash to the ground. Though things could be looking up.

I think DC finally understands what it needs to do for proper competition. Sadly though, it’s just to grind the money machine not because fans demand it. Or…is it the other way around? No, it’s probably for the money. Though I’m not sure what they’re worried about. They are in negotiations with Nolan about making that third Batman movie and all will be right with the world. I guess I’ve never thought of how they would handle a Green Lantern or Flash movie since they’re considered “lesser known” by the general public. Could they really do a trilogy of Green Arrow movies? What about Wonder Woman? As “fanboys”, we think we have all the answers and proper casting decisions and bitch and moan and sometimes “they” listen.

I think the studios are trying to be in sync with the colossal Comic Con crowd. Comic books movies are nothing new, but they seem to be more mainstream than ever and why not? Comic books have been around for decades and are considered by some modern day mythology. I am just curious about how “Watchmen” will do next March. In the teaser, it noted how it was based on the “most celebrated graphic novel of all time”. 300 had huge success and nobody knew it was A) based on a graphic novel and B) based loosely on a true battle. So, my eyebrows are perked when says DC it’s changing how their properties are handled. Does that mean “handled with care and concern to apease the fans” or “handled like the next big thing; nerds be damned”? I guess we’ll see in the upcoming months.

I really would like to see a Capt. Marvel (Shazam) movie. Its a doable movie, that can easily be made to fit into the Hollywood mold. He’s the Big Red Cheese afterall!! :)

Its never been done on big screen..however, now that I think about it–there’s something peculiliar with the rights owned by DC with the character. (At least that was the premise when a cartoon spin-off [Justice League] was suggested some years back.)
And secondly, Cap just doesn’t have the interesting villians like a Superman or Batman…but neither does Green Arrow. (right?)
