Maryz Eyez: Memento Mori

With an album titled Memento Mori, a Latin phrase that roughly translates to “remember that you are mortal, remember you will die”, there is a lesson and message to be heard. The album fittingly reveals we must live each day to its fullest, for tomorrow may not remember us. Since they’ve been together for more than a decade, they don’t seem like a band, more like a brotherhood and their music truly shows how they in sync.
The band’s name comes from the Bloody Mary ideology. Coming together in Junior High, there has been little change since then. The main addition was Eric’s brother Ryan, who joined in 2002. All four members write the songs on the album, and it’s an interesting mesh especially since the guys have similar music taste. Though if you listen to the CD, no song sounds like the previous track or the one after it. Their influences range from Bob Marley, Nirvana, the Beatles, Social D, and Offspring to Green Day, the Beach Boys, even Counting Crows and Jimmy Buffett. The lyrics are pop and radio friendly, but definitely not soft on the rock cords. One of their main songwriting influence is Johnny Cash, in the style of songs as short story and not just words that happen to rhyme. They have a dynamite sound that is guaranteed to rock your world.
As well as being expressive in their music, they are not only talented in one particular instrument, but versatile in other instruments. During the middle of the show, the members of the bad switch instruments and continue on playing without missing a beat. They are down to Earth guys who really love with what they do. They came together in Detroit, but uprooted to California, yet still continue to entertain and amaze new and established fans. Giving a hundred and thirty percent every time they get one stage and also off the stage. “[This] is my life and consumes most of my time, when I’m not doing that I help out running [GoDiY Records],” states Eric Wagler, 28. They’ve been on the Warped Tour for two years and actually have the number one and three spot on XM radio channel for four months. Their accomplishments are many and growing and the gang doesn’t take anything for granted.
