A remake of the cult classic “Red Sonja” has been announced at Comic Con 2008, it is currently in pre-production as very little has been announced so far. It is scheduled for a 2009 release and will be produced by Robert Rodriguez, directed by Douglas Aarniokoski, and actress Rose McGowan will portray Red Sonja. Djimon Hounsou will play the role of Thulsa Doom and Kulan Gath will also play a major role in the upcoming movie.

I am a bit skeptical about this movie, as the whole “hot chick kicking ass” has been done over and over again. Can anyone recall the movie failures that were Catwoman or Elektra? But having said that Robert Rodriguez does often end up making a good movie, so we can only hope he does a good job with the Red Sonja movie. Hopefully it’s going to be very gritty, very violent and rated R, as I would want it to be as faithful as possible to the comic book series.
