Xam’d Lost Memories (First Impressions)
Akiyuki, the main character of the animated series, lives on Sentan Island, a land that has preserved its status as a free and peaceful island in a world consumed by fighting between the Northern and Southern Governments. All of this changes when Akiyuki boards a bus along with a mysterious white-haired girl who transforms his arm with the lost memories and power of Xam’d.

As Xam’d, Akiyuki goes on a rampage and is saved when a foreign girl with red hair named “Nakiami calms him down, taking him back to her postal vessel. Akiyuki now must gain control of his powers and use them against the Northern Government’s latest weapons, known as “Humanforms”. Traveling the world on a postal vessel, Akiyuki hopes to return home one day, but until then he befriends other passengers on the boat.

Before I start I suggest you go read up on the developments that lead up to the first episode of Xam’d Lost Memories being released here. Now that we have that out of the way lets start. The first thing you will notice strait off the bat is, the animation style used in Xam’d is exactly the same as Eureka Seven which really isn’t a bad thing considering that Eureka Seven was pure eye candy.
The second thing you will notice (Or hear.) is the amazing soundtrack that just smacks of epic overtures just like Eureka Seven and sets the tone for Xam’d perfectly, and to say that the opening song for Xam’d Lost Memories is addictive is truly a understatement. I found myself listening to it over and over again, even the ending theme had my feet tapping. Don’t believe me well get the opening song here.

Now you would notice that I was comparing it a lot to Eureka Seven is this a bad thing? Personally I don’t think so, why mess with a working formula that in my opinion spawned one of the best anime shows I have ever watched. You can draw a lot of parallels between Xam’d and Eureka Seven, but I don’t think this will hurt the show in the long run.

As for the actual plot of Xam’d Lost Memories does not give much away during the first episode, what we do know is that there is currently a war going on between two sides namely the Northern and Southern Governments and that Sentan Island is a military free zone. We also get to meet the main character of the show namely Akiyuki, and of course some of the supporting yet un-named characters.
I can’t wait to see the next episode as it promises some over the top action sequences judging from the small preview that was given at the end of this episode. Not to mention the fact that the first episodes left us with a cliffhanger, and that does not make it any less bearable. Now here is hoping we see a proper release instead of having to get rip it from the PSN network each time it gets released.

On a side note. The episode quality is not very high as this is the first anime series to be released on the PSN network for the Sony Playstation 3, so most people ripped it trait from the console and without the right tools (Which is damn expensive.) the results you get without these tools will be mediocre at best. But don’t let this distract you in anyway, I still recommend getting this until it either gets a Japanese rel
