Paulagate!!!

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

I am shocked –SHOCKED, I say — that a network television show that manufactures pop music stars could be accused of ANY malfeasance.
EVER.
Pshaw!!!

Update!
Video of the sorry affair.

Jack Thompson’s got an ace up his sleeve?

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Is it possible that Mr. Jack Thompson, the nemesis of gamers around the world, has found means to finally bring the games industry down?

He sent this image to GamePolitics in an email with the subject line: Evidence.

Jack Thompson looking particularly devilish

What’s he trying to “prove?” Well, that one’s just too easy.

Darker Than Black (Review)

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Ten years ago, an inscrutable and abnormal territory known as Hell’s Gate appeared in Tokyo and altered the sky and decimated the landscape. The heavenly bodies disappeared, replaced by false stars. At the same time, people who possess various special abilities emerged. Kept secret from the knowledge of the masses, these individuals, known as Contractors, are able to murder in cold blood. Various nations around the world use Contractors as spies and agents, often resulting in violent battles for information. Each fake star has a corresponding contractor, and they vibrate when their contractor’s power is being used. As such, contractors are usually identified by their star’s Messier catalogue number. However, their abilities are gained at the edge of their humanity.

Where is all the good Anime for 2008

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

So 2007 was arguably one of the best years for Anime in a long time with lots of highly rated shows with high production values, great stories and top notch animation. Shows like:

  • Claymore
  • Code Geass
  • Bamboo Blade
  • Darker Than Black
  • Dennou Coil
  • Ghost Hound
  • Kekkaishi
  • Lucky Star
  • Mobile Gundam 00
  • Nana
  • Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
  • Seirei no Moribito
  • Skygirls
  • Sola
  • Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

There are just too many shows to mention them all in one post (don’t flame me if I missed some of your favorite shows;  these are the ones that were most memorable for me). So in 2007 we were pretty much spoiled for choice when it came to the amount of good Anime shows. To put it into perspective, at the same time last year I had around 17 titles that I was actively watching and downloading.

“Death Walks the Streets” Comic Trailer!

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

From our boy James Zahn at The Scream Factory, it’s the trailer for his forthcoming comic “Death Walks the Streets” (which, itself, ties in to James’s film of the same name, starring Christian Kane of “Angel” fame)!

LOST in LOST? Check this out!

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

If you’re like me, and through the magic of Tivo haven’t quite gotten to the new episode of Lost that aired Thursday night, this may be useful for you. Even if you already watched it, there might be a couple things this reminds you of that you’d forgotten. That’s right, this is a recap of the entire series from episode 1.1 to episode 4.8, all in 4 minutes 24 seconds. Just amazing.

Review- Mic Boyd - Lost in the Woods

Friday, April 25th, 2008

Mic Boyd has collaborated with his brother, Classified, on quite a few tracks, and now he’s hitting the scene with a full length album of his own.

The debut album, Lost in the Woods has its ups and downs, but definitely shows a strong talent ready to hit the hip-hop scene; his brother produced the album, but Mic is definitely not looking to stand in his shadow for long.

The album opener, and first single, Guess Who’s Back features Classified, and stays very safe. A lot of the lines will sound familiar to rap fans; they are versions of or directly copied lines from other famous rappers’ hits. The song has some good rhymes, but uses generic imagery and hip-hop stereotypes. Based on the first track alone, expectations for the album run pretty low. Then the second song hits, and the story changes.
Ignored features much stronger production, some real music, and fantastic story-telling. The lyrics are smoother, and more original; it’s a complete turn-around all at once. From there on, the album varies a little, but stays pretty strong. When Mic Boyd falls back on lyrics about weed, it gets boring; there are a lot of them, so if you’re not down with the ganj, this is not the rapper for you. When he tells stories and leaves those generic standards behind, he shines and shows why people should listen to his music. His references reach all over the spectrum, from the streets to the geeks. As the album progresses, Boyd seems to get more comfortable with himself and his sound.

The wide range of beats and backgrounds, accompanied by several strong story-telling songs (and a few boring weed ones) make this a good debut. With a focus on the story-telling and leaving the constant drug references behind, Mic Boyd’s next album could leave good behind and be just plain great.

Check out the video for the first single after the break.

Is the Wachowski Brothers “Ninja Assassin” really Ninja Scroll

Friday, April 25th, 2008

It was in the mid 90’s when Anime was just coming into it’s own across the world, that MTV’s Liquid Television ran video clips from a then very obscure Anime titled called “Ninja Scroll.” MTV used these clips as the intro and outro to their animation shows, which were ridiculously popular back in the day. It lead to bootlegged copies of Ninja Scroll being sold in the millions, then to an official release which sold millions of copies world wide making it one of the most popular movies next to Akira and Ghost In The Shell.

Turns out money can buy friends

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

Who wants to be Paris Hilton’s best friend?

Thousands of people, apparently. The infamous heiress is choosing through the Internet several candidates who will compete against one another on her upcoming reality show “Paris Hilton’s My New BFF.” The winner is her new best friend, I guess. There have already been thousands of profiles and videos posted to ParisBFF.com by people who are interested in being on the show.

I could be wrong, but it seems a little arrogant to think that the whole world loves you so much that people are going to claw out the eyes of their opponents over who gets to be your best friend. And I don’t know about you, but I haven’t fought over best friend status since I was…seven.

It’s times like these that I almost become pro-censorship. Because a show like this not only cheapens the very idea of friendship, it allows things like this to surface on the Internet.

I lost hundreds of brain cells watching that clip. They are lost forever.

Jenna Bush: Marvelously Self-Aware

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

On a recent appearance on NBC’s The Today Show, Jenna Bush discussed her impending wedding. Among her observations regarding being the daughter of the president, she said, “I’m not that glamorous.”
