CON JOB: Covering Convention News (Wizard World L.A. Part 2: Mutant Boogaloo)
Greg Land becomes the new co-artist on Uncanny X-Men. In a completely unrelated topic, stock prices for the Xerox Corporation jumped 15%.
Seriously though, I’m pleased to hear that Matt Fraction will be co-writing Uncanny with Ed Brubaker. Bru is arguably the best writer in the biz right now, but his X-Men run just hasn’t clicked for me. Hopefully, adding Fraction–who’s Casanova is possibly the best comic on the stands besides All-Star Superman–will bring this book up to the level of Brubaker’s Captain America or their collaboration on Iron Fist.
Of course, Greg Land is a huge turn off for me. I liked his work on Birds of Prey, Nightwing, and Sojourn, but since then, his art has become photo-referenced to the point of self-parody, and it’s just lifeless and dull. God only knows what would happen to his career should he ever forget to renew his Maxim subscription. (Though to be fair, if his Uncanny run looks more like this and less like this, I’ll be much happier.)
(EDIT: Sigh)
Terry Dodson will also be joining Land on Uncanny. I like Dodson’s work, and even got myself inked with his rendition of Zero from the cover to the Hopeless Savages: Ground Zero trade.

The only drawback to Dodson is that he isn’t known for being a speedy artist, so I fear we may be in for a situation much like Grant Morisson’s New X-Men, where we’ll get a rotating team of three entirely different artists: Land, Dodson, and the poor sacrificial lamb who’ll get roped into doing fill-ins in a couple of days notice.
In other news, Peter David announced that Longshot will be joining X-Factor in upcoming issues. Okay, so he’s not exactly an A-list character, and there’s been some awful stuff done with him in the past few years. But in the hands of the right person, like Ann Nocenti or Chris Claremont, Longshot can be a fun character. I’m sure PAD will do him justice.

The Xerox line alone was worth reading this recap for, Corey! LOL Good stuff.
