Your 80s Moment for the Day

Look for the animated Martian Manhunter and Dr. Fate at seven seconds! Remember, those two never appeared on the television program. (For the record, neither did Steppenwolf, who clocks in a touch earlier).

When SuperPowers collection hit..I was so entranced by Cybertron Incorporated, that they’re luck I even watched the Saturday Morning show! Mos def. and upgrade from their “Superfriends” days tho, I might add!!

I used to have the Darkseid Destroyer! Got it for like $10 at the K-B store on double-secret clearance. I think I got Darkseid for $3 too…

There were two times I was able to really boost my Super Powers collection. One was when they finally cleared everything out of Toys R Us, and the other was when this farm store in town cleared out their toy inventory. They would buy an entire aisle worth of toys every Christmas, sell about a third of it to the rubes that were actually in there to buy Carhartts and horse feed, and then sell the remainder off in gigantic clearance sales in January so they could stock that aisle with hip waders and cattle prods. I think I got a bunch of Micro Machines that way too. And, had I been 16 about 8 or 9 years earlier, I would have gotten my hands on a Vectrex for cheap too when that was big. I used to think that was the coolest.

The best part of the commercial, though, is Hawkman getting trapped by one of Mom’s colanders or a driving range bucket or whatever that thing was. That’s from the days when you didn’t have to have all the playsets and vehicles to have fun… you just used what you had around the house.

By the way, in that same shot at 7 seconds, it looks like Firestorm is still on the can and the rest of the team is waiting for him to finish up before they take off.

    Oh, those were the days…
Here’s to the genius that (hopefully) does a book on Super Powers for TwoMorrows the same way they recently did for the MEGO line. :)

I actually had the Firestorm figure. His knees don’t even bend. I feel sorry for all of those kids who tried to re-enact the “waiting for Firestorm to finish dropping a deuce so that we can whomp on Darkseid” scene.

  6. The Russ Says:

Ummmm… I had Firestorm, and I’m pretty sure that his knees did bend.

The only one I know for sure that didn’t was Brainiac, and I remember mine kept breaking his arms when you tried to do his Super Power kick.

Vince had a defective Firestorm. :D

    And EVERYBODY’S Brainiac broke.
