Site Announcement: The Forums Have Merged

Friday, February 29th, 2008

Regular visitors may have noticed that we had two separate sets of forums: one for the “main site”, and one for Shots in the Dark. As of this week, the forums have merged into one Voltron-like über-forum!

Available at the handy Forums link up top, the pages feature forums relating to all of our major topic areas. You’ll also find officially hosted forums for the following:

Christina Strain: ace Marvel colorist

Raven Gregory: Executive Editor of Zenescope Comics; writer of “Return to Wonderland” and “Grimm Fairy Tales”

Mark Kidwell: writer and artist; creator of “Bump” and writer of “Frank Frazetta’s Dark Kingdom” for Image

“Digital Unrest”: The webcomic by Chris Simmons

“Bump Movie”: The official forum of the forthcoming film, directed by Robert Kurtzman and starring Tobin Bell!

We’ve got another specially-hosted forum debuting soon, but that’s worth its own announcement.

So please, stop by, check ‘em out, interact with our writers and those crazy enough to hang here. Thanks for reading!

Lohan: “I am what I am.”

Friday, February 29th, 2008

In a new interview with Paper magazine, Lindsay Lohan talks about the causes of her behavior. Part of that answer is the featured line on the cover: “I am what I am.”

Lohan in Paper

What . . . trashy? Star of one of the worst-reviewed films of all time? Destined for a reality show on E!? The possibilities are endless.

That Ariel is one Lucky Lady! Yum!

Why hello there Prince Eric! You never looked more delicious or lickable, and I simply adore your Ariel tattoo!! This cheeky artwork is courtesy of forward-thinking David Kawena and his underwear-tastic portfolio entitled, appropriately enough, Disney Heroes! Kawena’s gives each Disney Prince some much needed and welcome time in the spotlight striking some serious modely poses in their “unmentionables”! Eat your heart out David Beckham!

Is the Love Guru the Austin Powers of India?

Friday, February 29th, 2008

Gee, doesn’t this trailer for Mike Meyers new movie “The Love Gurg” seem, I dunno, super familar? Like, uh, maybe a tad too Austin Powersy - like it’s just Austin Powers dressed as a dude from India?

 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPz5e9TvYIs&eurl=http://justjared.buzznet.com/page/2/

justin.JPGAll the same humor, much the same cast (hi Mini Me Verne Troyer!), and *gulg* a porno-stach Justin Timberlake in a *shudder* speedo! Yes, Justin freakin’ Timberlake! Speedo. Oye!

Now I love me some Austin Powers,  those movies are well truly hilars! But this? I can’t help but feel I’ve seen all these jokes and story set-ups before, and dare I say it, done better? Why not just make a fourth Austin Powers movie and call it a day?

The Doll’s Nose Tells the Tale!

Friday, February 29th, 2008

ashley.JPG

Teen star Ashley Tisdale jumped the plastic surgery shark and got herself a nose job! Did she pull an Ashlee Simpson and vastly improve herself or is she the new Jennifer Gray, who made herself virtually unrecognizable?

Either way, the dear girl’s former schnoz is forever enshrined in plastic! Her High School Musical doll mockingly retains the gal’s former profile and serves as a stinging-ever-lasting reminder of her pre-altered, beaky self. Bummer!

Maybe next time lass you ought to check with Disney marketing before you go and get nipped and tucked!

Buffy and Fray!? I just had a Geekgasim!

Buffy meets Fray in the upcoming Buffy #16!

Bring on the Pleasantly Plump Heroines!

Friday, February 29th, 2008

fat-ww.JPG

Who doesn’t love the idea of some “big-boned” lady heroes kicking ass and taking names! Image a real world, plus-sized Wonder Woman and Ms. Marvel soaring through the air? Now that would be something revolutionary to see in the world of the skimpy, but-cheek revealing, female hero in comic books!

These fantastic pieces are but a few of the tantalizing images by Steve Whitaker, who sadly passed away this week. Please visit his amazing site to look at the work of a true creative soul!

I’ve said it before: “Downey is perfect for this.”

Feelin’ Kinda WIRED

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

My first article for WIRED runs in the March issue, and they’ve got it up on the website right now. It’s a humorous look at the Best Sidekicks. Enjoy!

Robin!

Update: I’ve already received one piece of hate mail castigating me for making fun of Dana Scully. On the other hand, forum readers at Muppet Central seem rather pleased that I included Beaker. You win some; you lose some.

Superhero Movie Poster is Super LAME!

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

superhero-movie.JPG

Ugh! I mean, just, ugh! There are far too many things wrong with this idiotic poster, but a Storm-driven lightning crotch shot, that for sure takes the cake and craps all over it!

Garfield as Post-Modern Comic Strip

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

garfield.JPG

A Garfield strip without Garfield reads like the eerie remnants of a lonely, wasted, post-modern life. In short: Love! It!

Wolverine Brings Out the Big Guns!

Here’s another new pic of the upcoming Wolverine solo movie. Holy claw length Batman!! Maybe I just have claw envy, but holy moley, if these puppies aren’t the hugest things I have ever seen!

The Dissector #58.

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

DISCLAIMER (angry creators, please read)

[[WARNING! THIS COLUMN MIGHT CONTAIN SPOILERS!]]

“I’m Donna Troy, bitch.” New Earth Donna Troy to (I suppose) Earth-3 Donna Troy, Countdown To Final Crisis #15.

Welcome to yet another Dissector column, for the comics published on 01/16. Last week’s Dissect This! was correctly guessed by Snakebyte over at the ICS.net forums, saying that Doc Samson’s hair length is related to his strength, so it would be stupid of him to leave his hair short. A discussion ensued, and I while recognize that this is not the first time Doc is seen with shorter hair after WWH, until it is said, either on panel, or by somebody at Marvel that his strength level no longer depends on the length of his hair, I will consider this a dissection. Snakebyte, take a badge!
