Doesn’t Candice Michelle look like friggin’ plastic in that picture?

I actually have grown to like the concept of this pay-per-view over the years, and this used to be the only way you could see guys from different brands working with each other on the same show. I guess there’s still some debate as to whether or not the voting is rigged or not, but it’s a night of mindless fun that doesn’t really have an effect on the overall course of storylines and such, so I guess you either like it or you don’t. I’d like to see them utilize that gimmick on the weekly shows too.

Rey Mysterio defeated Finlay in a Stretcher Match (40% of the vote to the Shillelagh on a Pole Match and the No DQ Match). This was a hot opener to start the show. Mysterio hit a 619 on Finlay to knock him onto the stretcher and then dove onto Finlay before pushing the stretcher across the finish line. Great match from two guys that know how to work a crowd.

ECW Champion CM Punk retained over The Miz (39%). If Miz actually won that vote, it was either because a lot of people wanted to see him just get creamed or because there were a lot of smart-asses out there that wanted to throw the results. It was actually a watchable match. Punk won with the GTS.

Mr. Kennedy defeated WWE Intercontinental Champion Jeff Hardy in a nontitle match. Because Shawn Michaels won the vote to face WWE Champion Randy Orton, these two losers (so to speak) had to face each other. Hardy missed a dropkick and knocked himself silly, allowing Kennedy to pick up the pin. These guys don’t really have styles that mesh real well, and it showed here.

Kane (67%) defeated WWE U.S. Champion Montel Vontavious Porter by countout. Matt Hardy had to drop out of the voting on doctor’s orders after getting busted open the hard way last week, so Kane, Mark Henry, and Great Khali were put into the vote instead. Kane pretty much demolished MVP until he took a powder and walked out of the match. Eh.

Shawn Michaels defeated WWE Champion Randy Orton by DQ. Michaels went for the Sweet Chin Music, but Orton ducked down and hit him with a nut shot to get disqualified. After the match, Orton attempted to give Michaels another Syracuse concussion with a kick in the head to lose his smile, but Michaels kipped up and hit the superkick on Orton. Good match.

Triple H defeated Umaga in a Street Fight (57%). Apparently the crowd wanted the steel cage, but I quite honestly hate those matches, so screw those people. Now, let me add this bit of commentary here: Triple H came back like Superman and practically wiped the floor with the veteran Booker T, thus hastening his dissatisfaction with and departure from the company. On the other hand, he bumped like a madman for Umaga the rising star. Shows you how little the company thought of Booker in the first place… and almost nearly for his entire tenure with them. Anyway, there was a nice spot where Umaga splashed Triple H through the ECW announcers’ table. Triple H recovered later, pulling out the sledgehammer and hitting Umaga with it after he missed with the Samoan Spike KICK WHAM PEDIGREE and it’s over. Excellent match.

If you care, Mickie James won the Divas Halloween Costume Contest with 21% of the vote. She was dressed like a skank, as were all the divas. Wait, no, she was dressed like an Indian, right down to the dot on her forehead and the extra body hair. No, wait, wrong again… I guess that was an AMERICAN Indian. Maria was a cat, Torrie Wilson was a Washington Redskin (racists), Michelle McCool was Eve (as in “Adam and”), Melina was a Vegas showgirl (complete with feathers), Layla was a cop, Kelly Kelly was supposedly a gangster (if gangsters dressed in stripper robes, Brooke was Jane (as in “Tarzan and”), and Jillian was Britney Spears. Jim Ross said what everyone was thinking when he said it the worst Halloween costume contest ever.

World Heavyweight Champion Batista retained over the Undertaker with special guest referee Stone Cold Steve Austin (79%). Before the match, JBL got in the ring to protest the voting results, and both he and Foley got stunners from Austin. The crowd was behind Undertaker despite the fact that Batista should have been the hometown favorite. Lots of finishers and two-counts in this match, which got the guys over big-time. Batista had to hit three straight powerbombs on Undertaker to get the win.

Excellent show, probably one of the best PPV we’ve seen from WWE this year. I think the Great American Bash is the only one so far that I’ve really liked enough to watch more than once, and this show would fall in that category easily.

Yeah she looks like a Barbie, horrible poster.

Anyhow we got this one for free over he and I have to agree, it was really enjoyable. I was unhappy with a couple of things in that JBL should really have been ref, Miz getting the vote and Umaga getting pinned, again. The Miz/Morrison & Hardy/Kennedy matches were solid enough but didn’t have that PPV feel to them.

That said the opener and the street fight were fantastic, the use of weapons definitely adds that extra dynamic. The WWE title was great and surprised in that I thought it would be shorter given Michaels’ supposedly dodgy knees and the finish, while cheap, I was happy enough with. The main event was also very good. So yeah best show in a while.

I’m sure there is a joke somewhere about them only putting on a good PPV when the decision making is taken away from creative…

The voting system has to be rigged.. I can’t imagine any wrestling fan wanting to see Shawn Micheals on one knee wrestle for the title for the umpteenth time again.

Kennedy should have been booked in the main event (guess you all know who I voted for now), but that goes against Vince’s face vs heel hang-up

Ugh. Kennedy vs. Orton would have been terrible, and I refuse to believe that HBK won the vote over Jeff Hardy. Both Matt and Jeff are super-over right now, and I hope the WWE finally recognizes this and gives at least one of them a massive singles push. Matt’s the better wrestler, but Jeff has the most momentum, and I really think the WWE would be well-served to at least give one of them a run at one of the world titles. C’mon, a Hardy Boy in the main event at Wrestlemania Whatever-It-Is-This-Year would rule, and you know it.
