Out of boredom and the ease of putting something like this together, I decided I’d try doing profiles on some of the biggest Post Whores over at Newsarama.com (a site that ShotgunReviews.com has a bit of a working relationship with). Let’s see where this takes us. We start with…

Num48Champ

KHuxford: OK…so you’re currently the 9th most prolific poster on Newsarama.com, with Chap22 hot on your heels. You average over 92 posts per day. What compels you to post whore so frequently?
Num48champ: Umm, I post because I’m bored. I used to post more often, but I have cut down for the most part. Now, I mostly post when I have an opinion to state. Actually, most of my post “whoring” as you call it, comes from making Sigs. Everytime there is a request, and I choose to make it, there is another post.

KHuxford: I don’t know about that, sir: you’ve had 25 posts since 12:28pm (editor’s note: this was as of 3:04pm on the same day) and only one was in a Sig thread. That aside, what made Newsarama.com stand out as a cure to your boredom?
Num48champ: Well, I first stumbled upon the rama, when I was looking to get more comics. I actually founbd it on Google when I searched for Firestar comics. I know, big surprise there.
KHuxford: So your unhealthy obsession with Firestar led you to the ‘Rama? But what made you stick around? Any particular interactions you remember?
Num48champ: I don’t have an “unhealthy” obsession first of all. I stuck around, because I wanted to get updated on Marvel events. I started making Sigs when I discovered the Talk@ page and saw the avatar and sig thread. Then, I eventually joined the 20+ thread.
KHuxford: Wow…that’s right…you didn’t begin posting at the site until November 2006. That’s a lot of posting in under a year. Tell the truth: has it ever bit you on the ass? Distracted you from your college studies? Made you late for something?
Num48champ: Bit me in the ass? No, not that I can remember. For the other two questions, yes and yes.
KHuxford: What’s the worst crunch it has put you in, regarding school? And what’s the worst thing (other than class) it has made you late for?
Num48champ: Well, instead of doing a paper that was due once, I decided to post. My Prof took the paper, but it was marked late and I got a much lower grade. One time my parents were expecting me to pick them up at the bus stop, because they were coming back from the city. I didn’t show up till 20 minutes after they were at the stop. Yeah, they were pissed
KHuxford: Did those two experiences keep you from letting POST WHORING distract you so badly or have you succumbed to the temptation to keep posting since then?

Num48champ: I have stopped post whoring lately. I just haven’t been into posting when I didn’t have anything to say. Now, school comes first of course, and then comes posting.
KHuxford: So…no having to stay up a few hours later to do a paper because you got distracted? No looks of outrage and disdain from stranded family members?
Num48champ: Papers yes, but not because of the rama. It’s because I love to procrastinate. My family members do get angry, when I decide to be on the rama instead of spending time with them. I try not to do that though.
KHuxford: Are there ever any times that you regret how much time you’ve spent on the ‘Rama on a given day? Like the sense that the day just got away from you with too much of it spent hitting the Quote or Reply button?
Num48champ: Not really. Sometimes I really want to watch like a TV show or a movie, but by the time I get off the Computer it’s too late.
KHuxford: Gotcha. Now, you made mention before of doing sigs and avatars on the ‘Rama, which you have a pretty good reputation on. What’s it like to have desperate posters all over the world occasionally beg you to do your thing?
Num48champ: Well to tell you the thruth, it’s kinda annoying when they ask you multiple times in an hour. (The guy who I’m talking about knows who he is ) I call my frequent Sig requesters “Sig Whores” , because they ask and then the next day ask again. In otherwords, they can’t keep one Sig for longer then a week. (If that) Other then that, it’s a great. When I have time, I have no problem making them, but when I’m busy, and they annoy me, I get annoyed. I eventually make every request that is asked of me though. If that’s not dedication, I don’t know what is.
KHuxford: I’d say it is an invite for everyone on the ‘Rama to make sure to hit you up for a sig now that you’ve shared that info about your dedication. You’re obviously a fairly well known poster on the boards, so there are a few things about your personal life that wind up being rather widely known on the boards. Like many more than would admit it on a comic book message board, you’ve not yet “made the beast with two backs”. A few other notable posters take heat for not having popped their cork yet, yet people don’t give you much ribbing for it. What would you attribute the respectful handling to? Feel free to make fun of others if necessary in your explanation.
Num48champ: Well, Kent gets what he gets, well because he’s Kent. I get ribbed for alot of things, but I don’t take things that are said on the interwebz as insulting. It’s only said by people I will never meet in real life, so people will say what they want, I don’t really care. The Rama is a place I come to to read posts and laugh at stupid people. I’m not saying that everyone on the rama is stupid, but there are a few.
KHuxford: But you are saying that Kent is one of the stupid if I’m not missing my mark. I’d agree, though…it is probably your ability to recognize that it is useless to get flustered by the jokes that make you such an infrequent target. Would you say you’re fairly private about your personal life on the boards (with that being the exception) or a fairly open book?
Num48champ: I tell what I want. I don’t think it’s necessary for strangers to know your personel life. Others might disagree. About the Kent question, no comment.
KHuxford: As I alluded to earlier, you’re not all that far ahead of Chap22 on the Top 10 list. You’ve mentioned no longer feeling the need to POST WHORE as much these days…but do you think the possibility of being surpassed by Chap22 might influence you to throw a few extra posts up a day to maintain your position?
Num48champ: I just recently passed Chappy yesterday. If he passes me again, no biggy. He does post alot though.
KHuxford: Then no excitement at being on pace to surpass JZA sometime soon?
Num48champ: Of course there is. The post whore in me still remains. I just keep it buried most of the time
KHuxford: And so it appears that the player may leave the game, but the game never leaves the player. Thanks, Champy!
