Shotgun Rasslin’ Roundtable: TNA Victory Road Preview

It’s just me this week, because I wasn’t prepared and I didn’t tell anybody we were doing this, so let me just get right to it.
Rhino vs. Cowboy James Storm
This will probably be a good match, but you know Storm will win. My problem is the use of the alcoholism storyline so soon after the Benoit murders. On one hand, Rhino has looked like the sympathetic character by frankly discussing his issues with the bottle. On the other hand, it’s tacky and unoriginal. We all remember Jerry Lawler dumping a bottle of Jack Daniels all over Jake Roberts’ face. Same thing here.
Jerry Lynn & Bob Backlund vs. Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley
Who cares? I’m so through with Backlund and Shelley. Throwing Lynn and Sabin into the mix just irritates me even further. I’ll go with the team that doesn’t have the combined age of almost 100 going over.
Eric Young & Gail Kim vs. Robert Roode & Traci Brooks
Again, who cares? I’m sick of this tired storyline. It seems like it’s been going on for a year now. I guess I’ll take Young Foo Kim to go over, but it could be either team. This is so pointless to watch.
10-Man Ultimate X Match
One hopes that this match will steal the show. There are a lot of workhorses in this match. I would like to say that Chris Daniels will win, but they haven’t announced two of the guys yet, so I wonder if one of the surprise entrants will go over. This match isn’t worth the price of admission alone, but it’s a nice try.
Sting & Abyss vs. AJ Styles & Tomko
I hate the fact that AJ Styles (a former 3-time heavyweight champion) is the lackey of Christian Cage (a former 2-time champion). Hopefully, they will end up feuding with each other, but for the time being, we get this. I hope that Abyss’ face turn is not permanent, but now that Father Mitchell seems to be getting a new protege, I guess it must be. I will pull for Styles and Tomko to win. This will probably be the only watchable tag match on the card.
“Wildcat” Chris Harris vs. Christian Cage
This should be an awesome match, and this would be an awesome feud if they would have pushed it more. All we seem to hear about on TNA these days is Kevin Nash, Eric Young, and Kurt Angle. Yippee. I think Christian will go over, but if Harris won, I would be equally happy.
TNA World Heavyweight Champion Kurt Angle & TNA X-Division Champion Samoa Joe vs. TNA World Tag Team Champions Team 3-D (Match of Champions)
This match is so stupid and obvious on every level. The favorites will fight each other to build the tension, one of them will hit the other, but accidentally score the pinfall for their team. I can’t imagine Bubba or D-Von getting either of these singles belts… no one can. So we all know who will win, or there will be a DQ ending. Either way, this… is… crap.
All in all, this is a very underwhelming card that only the die-hard TNA fans would want to buy. Is the subtitle for Victory Road going to be “the night of irrelevant tag matches”? Because that’s what it’s looking like already.

That was a nice preview Russ, thanks. I agree that this PPV looks crap and I think it is pretty clear that TNA has gone backwards over the past year. I’ll just throw a couple thoughts into the mix if you don’t mind
-Rhino’s a jobber so Storm should win.
-Story should have ended months ago. Sabin & Shelly are being wasted and should win. But I wouldn’t be surprised if they lost, it is TNA after all, where the ridiculous happens more often than not.
-Pretty much same as above, feud has gone on way too long. I go for Kim/Young.
-Man Daniels is being wasted, he should be up on the top card and have won the main title by now. They done good giving Lethal the title only to take it away 5 days later, which is just stupid. Mystery guy to win.
-Styles & Tomko. This one should be enjoyable.
-I think Harris will win and Christian will be pissed and then the feud will continue as this has a ton a potential.
-Candidate for most stupid match of the year goes to…This will be a crap main event with Joe and Angle winning then Joe decking Angle and he holds up the heavyweight belt.
So yeah, I agree, I wouldn’t buy it but we get it for free a few days later so that’s a moot point.

Words defy what I could say about this PPV event.
I’m glad you didn’t send me an e-mail; I have nothing to say about this PPV other than it will probably have the worst buyrate of any wrestling PPV known to man.
What a stinker.
