The Shield S6E5 - Shane? Shane? Don’t Leave Us, Shane!

You know…if it is possible to feel bad for a guy who killed one of his own friends, it happened here.

Shane gets his ass-kicked, royally, for having sex regularly with a girl of questionable age. Of all the things that could have legitimately led to his catching a beatdown…THIS was what led to him being beat within an inch of his life.

Jacked up sexual situations are the theme of the night, it would seem. The GO HOME rapist gets collared and seems more depraved than you might have expected. The long list of hispanic dead bodies gets longer, which sort of leads to Dutch looking like an idiot (really haven’t had enough of that this season). Shane is doing a young black girl who really seems to be underage.

One thing that bugs me, though, is that the season seems to almost exclusively be about the eventual revelation that Shane killed Lem. Its a little too one-note for me, especially since it doesn’t really introduce outside conflict. In previous seasons, when the season was pretty focused on one thread, it still covered more territory than an internal Strike Team conflict. We’ve had about 3-4 times that they’ve teased Shane coming clean already. It gets old quickly…and that’ll happen when it is the only enticing item they have for the whole season.

If things don’t pick up next episode, this may wind up being a weak season, by the standards previously set by the show.
