THIS GUY Drew First Blood??

Here I was ready to keep score on the inevitable douchebaggery to take place this year between the Chicago Cubs’ Lou Piniella and the White Sox’ Ozzie Guillen, and they are both beaten to the punch, and then some, by Don Imus??
That’s like shooting fish in a barrel!!
I guess I’m torn in that I CLEARLY DISAGREE with the God-awful comments Imus made at the expense of Rutgers University women’s basketball team, but I keep wondering if Don Imus matters. I guess he does because he attracts a lot of listeners/viewers – it’s just he seems very irrelevant to me and those I consider my peers.
Much like this one guy who frequents Newsarama who goes by the handle “Graeme.”
No charge. ;-)
All things considered, though, Imus should thank his lucky stars that he’s not employed by the NFL.

Personally? What is pissing me off about this situation is how many of the people attacking him are hypocrites. Whoopi Goldberg? Appeared with her beau at the time, Ted Danson, in black face. Jesse Jackson? Called NYC “Himey Town”. Al Sharpton? Called white business owners in Harlem “interlopers” and let’s not forget the Tawanna Brawley case. They all sought and, for the most part, attained forgiveness. Whoopi, after that black face incident, has a radio show…as does Al…and Jesse had a TV show.
Imus made a REALLY REALLY TERRIBLE joke. But it was a joke. It wasn’t said with malice or hate. He’s been contrite (and visibly shaken, at times) with his apology. I’m not saying that apologizing makes it all OK now. But I am saying that I really don’t think he is the person to make an example of (especially when I’m pretty sure stand-up comedian Steve Harvey has said something similar to “nappy-headed ho” at some point in his stand-up career…that he’s now turned into a syndicated morning radio show gig without issue). Hypocrisy…gotta love it.

I’m with Kevin–
My problem with all of this is the whole “aww–he said something naughty”…when that kind of language is canonized standard slang–just because he’s an old white guy doesn’t mean it’s off limits to say nappy-headed ho…ahh the perils of PCism and letting the meek and oversensitive inherit the Earth.
I mean he didn’t pull a Michael Richards and melt down, right?
Also OJ raises a good point–who cares about IMUS–he’s antiquated and his show sucks.
If anything this bad press is good press for him–it’s keep his career on life support. Plenty of people have done more boneheaded things and survived and actually prospered…apparently the news was having a ‘bad hair day’ and needed something to talk about…
